Ice Skating Vail Valley

The Dobson Ice Arena on Meadow Drive east of the LionsHead parking structure, offers indoor public skating sessions daily in winter. Skate rentals and sharpening are also available. The Black Family Ice Rink in Beaver Creek Village offers year-round skating and is located in the center of the energy and activity of this quaint Colorado village. Scenic outdoor skating is also available. The outdoor skating rink at the Vail Nordic Center is open weather permitting from November - March and offers breathtaking views of the Gore Range. There’s free outdoor public skating on Avon’s Nottingham Lake near the Beaver Creek’s entrance.

Vail Valley Telemark Skiing

Telemark skiing combines the action of traditional cross-country skiing with the excitement of downhill skiing. A separate system of techniques and turns allows telemark skiers to negotiate the slopes of the Vail Valley, and the experience is not soon forgotten. If you consider yourself a solid intermediate or even an expert skier, a telemark class will demand a new set of reflexes and unusual techniques.

Vail Valley Tennis

Many lodges offer tennis courts for the use of their guests, and most are equipped for evening play. There are also many public courts available including:

The Town of Avon has four tennis courts adjacent to Nottingham Lake. There is no charge for these courts, but reservations are not available. Playing tennis at altitude can be strenuous. Give your body plenty of time to adjust to the Vail Valley’s higher elevation. Also remember to drink lots of water and wear sunscreen as the sun’s rays are much more intense here than at sea level.

Vail Valley Snowshoeing

If you can walk you can snowshoe. This is the easiest way to enjoy the beautiful snowy surroundings of the Vail Valley. The Cordillera Nordic Center offers snowshoe rentals and a vast snowshoe trail system.
